This region is not only one of the world’s most biodiverse regions, but is also one of the wettest. You will find several ecosystems including mangroves, beaches, rainforests, and cloud forests on the Andean slopes. Besides some 650 species of birds which may be found here, there are also several poison arrow frogs, and mammals such as the jaguar or tapir. The Baudo and Darien mountains are located here and are home to a rich flora and fauna. Conservation action in the Pacific includes National Natural Parks, private reserves and several IBAs.
